As you may already be aware, polycarbonate scratches MUCH easier than glass if it doesn’t have a scratch coating. It scratches easier than glass even with a scratch coating. It certainly is lighter and stronger than glass. Cool modification. Please let us know how it goes with scratches and visibility over time.
Yeah I was told it might scratch easily. I’ll let you know how it goes over time. My main goal with this plastic window replacement is that it seals out dust and water and not break when I abuse it. It only cost me $200 whereas a window replacement from GFC also cost $200 plus shipping. I was considering trading it to someone else and buying the window but I’m going to stick with this for now. I also considered buying a new rear panel with no window which cost $550 Plus shipping.
Small but big improvement! Added a grab handle to assist standing up on the tailgate or bumper.
Used a mix of GFC track hardware and slightly longer stainless bolts to mount.
I attached mine to the top extrusion. I can still use it to help climbing to the tailgate, but I also loop a narrow strap to it and help pull the tent closed, so I don’t have to yank on the tent sides quite so much.
Nice! I considered the top, but i have no problem reaching the sides and pulling it down that way. My biggest problem is just making the step up to our bumper on a lifted truck. We access the roof frequently setting up camp because we mount a starlink up there before sending the tent up.
I replaced the rear tailgate seal for the second time in 3 years. Each time the metal teeth inside rust out. This time I sprayed some T-9 Bowshield hopefully that makes it last. Here’s a pic of the old one.
I made up another little gadget to hang my lantern bulb just a twist and it’s on. Although I think I may have to make a left and right version, but it works nicely. I tested it out over the weekend.
The last 3 days my wife and youngest joined me and I quickly learned that my placement of items in the truck was not ideal when a 3rd and 2 dogs are involved so I did a little reorganize today

I actually took apart my zipper and added another pull to it but these should work as well.
I’m looking at doing this same thing with my diesel heater because I’m tired of hauling around my homemade case. Where is your fuel tank located? I was thinking of using some form of quick connect that simply connects to a Jerry.
The tanks an interim solution; the tank that came with my diesel heater was leaking and I wanted to make sure I had something useable for ski season. The main things I wanted to address is hard-mounting the heater and getting the pump quiet. The pump is an order of magnitude quieter in the case, but I’m probably going to locate it out of the GFC cabin so it doesn’t make a peep.
I bought a cheap Amazon rotopax fuel case with mount and a fuel pickup. Excuse the bungy cords; need to build a standoff to use the mount but I may go a different route with a 1 gallon fuel cell later on.
I’ve got a lot of valuable information I need to post on how to install these units correctly. Ive been consulting with a marine shop who’s been installing Webasto diesel heaters for a long time; long before the patent ran up in the last few years, that’s why theres a flood of cheap copies coming from China.
