The “old” pic is from last year. The Renogy unit’s MPPT function decided to call it quits and not charging at all under the Lithium profile, but if I switch it over to custom profile everything works great.
As the unit itself is bulky and my first choice was Redarc to begin with (I was leaving for Alaska last year and the older unit needed replacement (going from MPPT to DC-DC w MPPT), Renogy was the only one that had DC-DC w/ MPPT in stock ready to go so I had to go with Renogy), I decided to not mess with the warranty and switch over to Redarc.
The Redarc Alpha50 is much smaller in size and lighter, and the app itself is much more user friendly for monitoring. The only downside is the unit is way too smart, and require me to manually reset it to get it out of float charge (I am running starlink 24/7. At 70% SOC it’s not low enough for RedArc to kick it to bulk charge to charge it back to 100%, which is vital for me when I am on a road trip). The other downside is Redarc app doesn’t work with carplay.
But still, at ~double the price, I still think Redarc is a better upgrade.
I installed the Aspen Frontier Hang Duffels for optimal use of space for gear, clothing and other things. Also added the vrnclr bedding catch. Both options are perfect for what I wanted.
Also repurposed some rubber mats from my basement gym, to soften the top of my Decked system and it is really nice on the knees now!
Did you use VHB tape or how did you mount the aluminum extrusion to hold those Aspen units? I keep looking at those mounts and thinking they would work well but never have a good place to mount them.
Yea its 3d printed ASA to stand up to the uv, heat, & elements. Its quite large so i sent it off to be printed but would redesign it to be split if i were to make more and bring cost down
having run sweeper duty 80% of the time I always appreciate people who can dim their chase lights when it gets dark or after sun sets. it makes visibility much better vs having bright amber lights shining in the face like some oncoming traffic shining high beams.
just food for thought, especially if you have rigs following and tend to be driving on dirt after dark.
Gotcha! ya still they aren’t the brightest things and its a very wide spread since these are rock lights. if they were SSC2s or something it would be a different story.
How are you attaching the wires to the outside of the camper? Also, some flush side cutters would be on my shopping list, as those zip tie ends are giving me PTSD just looking at them!
Do you remember off-hand if the Pro lights remember their last setting - I’d like to control the power via a switchpod while leaving the controller inline. I basically just need them to come on when external power is supplied, without touching the controller.
There was a 3D print file on the forums a year or so ago that was a track insert wire zip tie slot. I had 60 printed and just ran them along the track.
Yea I need to redo the cable run come spring so for now I just don’t look at them
